There are some truly amazing stories that can be told about the people, places and events in this area. Many are true. Some are tall tales or even legends. All stories are personal, and every story is shaped by the life and memories of the story teller.
The Annapolis Oral History Project is gathering stories that will be preserved and made available to the public on a free platform. The Annapolis History Wiki –annapolishistorywiki – is a multimedia repository of historical information, personal stories, and oral records encompassing the greater Annapolis area's captivating history and cultural heritage. Beyond text, the pages include images, audio and video interviews.
If you or someone you know has a story you would like us to preserve and share, please let us know! Here are some of the topics we are currently focusing on:
Music Teachers – We can learn many things from our music teachers, in addition to music. Educators like Ms. Harper at Annapolis Junior High and Ms. North at Bates Junior High made lasting impressions on many of us. Our experiences in concert band, marching band, orchestra, private lessons and other musical experiences are a large part of who we are today.
Community Theater – Actors, directors, stage managers and crew can be very interesting people! The productions can have successes and mishaps. Anyone who has been involved in a community theater production can tell you a story about it. Tell us about it!
The Seafarers Yacht Club – One of the oldest operating Black boating clubs in the country is located in Eastport. They have promoted boating safety and seamanship since 1959. Have you or someone you know been a Sea Scout, Seafarers member or attended one of their social events?
All stories are welcome. Even ghost stories! These stories can be about our experiences, or those of our parents, children and friends.
